UMW of Luling FUMC meets

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The United Methodist Women evolved from the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, founded March 23, 1869 at Tremont Street Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston, Massachusetts. Eight women braved a stormy night at the urgent call of Clementine Butler and and Lois Parker to organize this ministry to women and children in foreign

countries. That same year Clara Swain and Isabella Thobun were sent as missionaries to India in the fields of medicine and education. Today approximately one million members are part of this organization that strives to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders and advocate for justice. Nearly $25 million annually provide programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around

the world.

UMW units from FUMC and William Taylor UMC hosted a approximately 107 ladies from across the Austin District at the District's annual meeting on September 22nd.

Joe Svoboda gave a presentation on the P.E.T. project at the close of the meeting.
